Choose your race day before your room

The official dates are Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 18, 2026. If you are coming for a particular crew, confirm its race day and instructions before fixing your travel dates. Spectators and participants need different arrival plans.

For a short spectator visit, choose one viewing area and build the rest of the day around it. Avoid a sequence that requires repeated crossings of the river just to fit in meals or meet companions.

A Cambridge address can suit a day centred on Harvard Square and that side of the river. A Boston base can work better when the regatta shares the trip with other Boston plans. In either case, compare the door-to-viewing-point route; a neighbourhood name alone does not establish walking distance.

Arriving by car or public transport

The organiser warns that parking for spectators, athletes and volunteers is extremely limited. Its parking page lists Harvard Stadium Gate 14 and Alewife station as options; read the current opening times, payment rules and route instructions there before leaving.

The organiser describes a Red Line connection from Alewife to Harvard Square followed by a walk to the river. Check current MBTA service alerts and the final pedestrian route for your chosen viewing point. Do not assume a parking reservation at your hotel includes event parking.

Companions, access and the rest of the day

Agree on a meeting point and a meal on the same side of the river as your main viewing stop. Keep a flexible gap after the racing you want to see, rather than booking a tightly timed activity across town.

Check the weather before setting out and bring suitable layers for standing outside. For step-free access, seating or assistance, ask the organiser about the exact area you intend to use; public river access does not mean every viewing spot meets the same needs.
